Get Involved

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation seeks to mobilize the sorors and affiliates of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., their families and members of their communities to promote the public service which has been a significant part of the Sorority's mission since its inception in 1922 at Butler University located in Indianapolis, IN. The upcoming Centennial Celebration of the Sorority in 2022 provides an opportunity for its sorors and affiliates to build upon the legacy of the Sorority and strengthen their commitments to develop leadership opportunities and act as mentors, with a particular emphasis on assisting women, children and families in underserved communities.

The values and objectives of the G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation are embodied in its acronym: Giving Opportunities for Leadership, Development, and Education to support global Neighborhoods.

Giving.

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation seeks to encourage giving, whether by providing support to charitable programming, making contributions or grants (whether cash or in kind) or acting as or soliciting volunteer resources.

Opportunities.

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation intends to provide access to resources and access to information, community outreach, and awareness initiatives for women and underserved communities. For example, G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation intends to support the Healthy Choices, Healthy Living, and Healthy Generations (H3 initiative) of Project Reassurance which seeks to comprehensively address the factors that lead to teen pregnancy – low self-esteem, diet and economic issues – while also providing support and guidance when it does occur.

Leadership.

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation will provide training and leadership development, best practices, and mentoring programs for women to promote the development of their capacity as leaders within their respective communities and within their chosen vocation.

Development. G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation will develop community resources and promote capacity building by providing access to STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Math) labs, libraries and historical archives. Too many communities do not have the adequate capacity or access to the resources necessary for the future.

Education.

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation will partner with many educational programs that can improve the quality of life for women, children and families in underserved communities. These programs may directly support schools, such as OBBB (Operation Big Book Bag) that provide school supplies to students. Other programs are designed to create individual learning opportunities, such as the Mwanimugimu Essay Contest which heightens knowledge of the historical and contemporary development of Africa. Additional efforts will encourage physical fitness education through programs such as Swim 1922, a partnership with USA Swimming or USATF’s Run, Jump and Throw program.

Neighborhoods.

G.O.L.D.E.N. Charitable Foundation will support underserved domestic and international communities, schools or educational institutions. For example, support will be provided to programs which address the concerns of youth (e.g. an annual Youth Symposium which focuses on drugs, teen violence, abuse, low self-esteem, suicide, teen pregnancy, etc.) and the disproportionate burden of cancer on African Americans (Hattie McDaniel Breast Cancer Awareness and breast, prostate, ovarian, colon and other cancer awareness and cure efforts). Support will also include other social and civic justice programming, including, law enforcement training and conduct, diverse community policing and profiling practices.

A Heartwarming Success Story

The story of R. G. LeTourneau. As he succeeded, he increased his giving to the point where he was giving 90% of his income to the Lord’s work.
R. G. LeTourneau says, “I shovel out the money, and God shovels it back—but God has a bigger shovel”. You may be thinking, “I could give 90% too if I was a multi-millionaire.” Maybe so, but LeTourneau didn’t start out wealthy.
